Originally from Louisiana when she was a puppy, Amber came to the Sanctuary with her sister Estie. They are 3 year old hound/lab mixes who had a history of behaving badly in their prior homes. Since arriving at the Sanctuary they have left that life behind. They now have been split up and live separately, and have no interest in being together now. This has eliminated the competition that they regularly engaged in that led to their bad behaviors.
Amber is sensitive when meeting new people, and we need to introduce her more slowly to strangers. Once she bonds though Amber is very affectionate to her people. Amber also has some physical challenges, first having to be treated for Heartworm, and then just recently having a bought with Lyme disease. We are doing physical therapy exercises with her to overcome the stiffness she feels from the Lyme disease. We received good news recently that she is no longer positive for Lyme disease. She’s also lost some weight and is leaving her physical problems behind her.
